The crowd present at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night were thoroughly entertained to an enticing contest between George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr in the semi-final showdown of the World Boxing Super Series.

Eubank Jr succumbed to his second defeat in his pro career as Groves won by unanimous decision after 12 rounds of a gruelling encounter.

Groves, however, had to survive the final round with a dislocated shoulder and despite the victory, doubts remain over his availability for the final which is set to take place on June 2 at the O2 Arena.

He was immediately taken to hospital for further assessment but a timescale on his return to training is yet to be set.

But if the shoulder problem proves to be even more severe, Groves insists the date of final should be changed so he can compete.

“Who wants to watch the WBSS final without me in it? If the dates need to be changed slightly then I’m sure they’ll do that," Groves said, per The Mirror.

“We’ll get the medical report first and then see. If I was them, I wouldn’t want to replace me.”

After undergoing further scans over the last 24 hours, the 29-year-old is likely to find out a lot more about how long it will require to fully recover later this week but he remains positive.

“The doctors said it looked good and that they couldn’t see any floating bone,” the Brit added.

“If you break that ball-and-socket, that’s a lot more trouble. I’m going to go and see a specialist and have more MRI scans, so should have a full idea by Tuesday.”

Kalle Sauerland, Groves' promoter and the tournament chief, asserted that there can only be a delay of two weeks for the final because the next tournament will be launched in June itself.

“If it’s a case of a few weeks, then of course we would look at moving the final,” said Sauerland, who later suggested James DeGale as a possible replacement.

“But if it’s a question of months, there’s not a chance. It simply can’t be because the tournament moves in a cycle.

“Those are the unfortunate circumstances, but Wimbledon moves on without Federer.”

The absence of Groves would certainly be a huge loss after he put on a tactical masterclass against Eubank Jr on Saturday night.

But that will only be a last resort if he has anything to with it.
