George Groves outclassed Chris Eubank Jr in the Manchester Arena on Saturday night, with the judges scoring the fight 117-112 116-112 115-113 in his favour. He dislocated his shoulder in the final round but Groves dictated the fight throughout to become the WBA and IBO super middleweight champion, whilst progressing to the final of the World Boxing Super Series.Eubank Jr doesn't have a real coach or trainer and his decision to rely heavily on his father has been heavily criticised in the immediate aftermath of the fight.Ranked by BoxRec as the fourth best British super-middleweight boxer of all time, Chris Eubank Sr accompanied his son to the ring as he fell to the second defeat of his career."Listen, he needs a coach," Tony Bellew said. "Ronnie Davies is a fantastic coach, he should be having more input. Because his father is useless for him. His father has been useless for him tonight - what's he done?"I'm just a Chris Eubank Sr fan when he was a fighter. Always a fan. Don't get me wrong, Nigel Benn was my favourite, but I still admire the father as a fighter - brilliant fighter."He's done his son a disservice tonight. All you've done is be a distraction. He needs a boxing coach, boxers don't always make great coaches. They [coaches] see different things."Groves has recovered from serious career setbacks and boxing legend Nigel Benn believes Eubank Jr can do too.
Benn's video message for Eubank Jr was spot on
On Monday morning, the 'Dark Destroyer' posted another video with some excellent career advice for the 28-year-old.
"I think you have to just get back down to middleweight," said Benn in a new Twitter video. "Not to challenge Billy Joe [Saunders] or [Gennady] Golovkin, who are just a different class. If it was one of them two [on Saturday night], you would've been smashed to bits.
"Cut that umbilical cord from your dad.
"Listen to your trainer. Start again. You've got talent to be world champion but you need to be your own man. You've got to start listening to your trainer, not your dad.
"It's your time to shine - you've got to come back."
He's absolutely spot on - let's hope Eubank Jr takes his advice on board.
