Who knew that Adam Silver was such a joker? The NBA commissioner produced a fantastic line during the annual All-Star Legends Brunch at the L.A. Convention Center last weekend in reference to the fines Magic Johnson has had to pay the NBA recently for talking publicly about certain players.

The Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations has been fined $550,000 in the past six months for violating league tampering rules by talking publicly about Oklahoma City Thunder’s Paul George and Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Johnson was at the brunch last weekend, as he was named the 2018 Legend of the Year. However, he was the victim of an absolutely brilliant comment by Silver in regards to his recent fines for violating league tampering rules.

In a shout-out to the Lakers president of basketball operations, the commissioner said according to NBA.com: “Magic, thank you for paying for the brunch today.”

Surely the NBA didn't spend $555,000 on brunch though?

At the All-Star Legends Brunch, as well as Johnson being roasted by Silver and being named 2018 Legend of the Year, three other Lakers legends were presented with awards at the L.A. Convention Center.

Jerry West was presented with the NBA’s Lifetime Achievement Award, James Worthy received the Global Ambassador Award, and Bill Walton was presented with the Hometown Hero Award.

Silver had nothing but praise for West, as he said: “One thing people know about Jerry is, he pulls no punches. And so, Jerry is someone I know I can count on. When there’s things happening in the league, Jerry will tell me exactly what I should know about today’s game and what’s happening with today’s players.”

The All-Star Legends Brunch was part of a fantastic All-Star weekend in Los Angeles which saw Team LeBron defeat Team Steph in the All-Star game, Team World defeat Team USA in the Rising Stars Challenge, Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets winning the Skills Challenge,  Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns winning the Three-Point Contest, and Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz winning the Slam Dunk Contest.
