Despite George Groves scoring a unanimous points decision victory over Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday in the super middleweight semi-final of World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), words continue to be exchanged between the two fighters.

Most observers felt that Groves (28-3, 20 KO's) had fought the tactically better fight, effectively controlling the range whilst showing tremendous accuracy with his jab,  and it was hard to find anyone who disagreed with the scorecards of 117-112, 116-112, and 115-113 for the Hammersmith fighter.

Eubank Junior, now 26-2 in his career, suffered a bad cut over his his right eye during the third round of the contest, which undoubtedly hampered him throughout the remainder of the fight.

Nevertheless, Eubank almost stopped Groves in the closing seconds of the 12th round after Groves had dislocated his shoulder in the opening minute of the round.

However, Groves showed impressive grit to survive the round and record the victory.

In the aftermath of the bout, Eubank Junior had accused Groves of intentionally headbutting him and that the fouls were the reason for the cuts he received.

However, as per boxingnewsandviews.com, Groves has now responded to rubbish these claims.

“The cuts were down to a clash of heads," stated Groves.

"I’ve got a tiny little nick above my eye as well because of a clash of heads...There is a slow mo at the end of the second round when he does get cut."

Indeed, "The Saint" speculated that the injuries suffered by Eubank Junior were more a result of his opponent's lack of technical subtlety than anything else.

"He launches in at me and because I’m not green," reasoned the WBA and IBO champion.

"I know what he’s doing and so I make sure he doesn’t catch me face first and doesn’t end up cutting himself on my head because of his recklessness. There was obviously no intentional headbutts. I’m not that kind of fighter".

Groves is set to face either Liverpool's Callum Smith (23-0, 17 KO's) or Dutchman Nieky Holzken (13-0, 10 KOs) in the final of the WBSS. Holzken serves as a late notice substitute for German Jurgen Brahmer in Saturday's second semi-final.

The finale of the tournament is currently slated to be held at London's 02 Arena on June 2 this year.

WBSS chiefs have confirmed that a replacement could be sought for Groves if his shoulder injury means that he cannot compete within that timescale.

High on that list would surely be Eubank Junior, meaning that the Brighton man could potentially snatch Groves' place in the final from him.

One thing seems clear, however, and that is that the 12 rounds of combat that Groves and Eubank shared in Manchester this past Saturday looks set to be far from their last interaction with one another.
