Neymar shocked the world last summer when he traded life in Barcelona with Lionel Messi for a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants spent a world-record €222 million to bring the Brazilian superstar to the club and he has been firing on all cylinders ever since.

The 26-year-old has 28 goals and 15 assists in 29 games in all competitions for PSG this season, but many fans seem reluctant to give him the praise he deserves because Ligue 1 is not deemed a top league in Europe.

In fact, England, Italy, Spain and Germany are all seen as more competitive leagues around the continent.

There has been plenty of speculation suggesting that Neymar left the Nou Camp in a bid to try and 'move out of Messi's shadow' and, eventually, win a Ballon d'Or.

While the forward is certainly having a fine season and looks destined to pick up the Ligue 1 title, Messi has 27 goals in 34 games for Barca this season - with 12 assists - and has guided them to a seven-point lead at the top of La Liga.

One man who played with Messi at Barcelona and won a treble in the process is Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Speaking to Spanish publication Marca, Henry believes that Neymar is wasting his time trying to escape Messi's shadow.

"I don't know if Neymar left Barcelona to get out of Messi's shadow," Henry professed. "What is true is that all players are in Messi's shadow, and if Neymar doesn't want to be, he should change sport."

Fair analysis from Henry, all things considered. Neymar should have embraced the time he had with Messi if anything - not everyone has the chance to play alongside one of the game's greatest ever players.

However, if Neymar truly believes he can reach that kind of stratosphere, then you can't blame him for moving. It seems as present, though, his legacy isn't being enhanced by playing in France, no matter what statistics he puts up.

If PSG fail to overturn their 3-1 deficit to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Neymar will inevitably face more questions about his move.
