Striker Luke Varney looks like being surplus to requirements at Derby after returning from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.
Rams boss Nigel Clough is keen to bolster his attacking options this summer. Poland Under-21 international Tomasz Cywka, who impressed during his loan spell from Wigan is a target and Clough has also expressed his interest in Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper.
"We are not too badly off in the striker department. We have got Rob Hulse, Kris Commons and Chris Porter. We would like to sign Tomasz Cywka and Steven Davies is going to be fit for the start of next season." said Clough. "We are not too bad up there, so Luke might find himself surplus to requirements."
The 27-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract with the Rams, spent much of the season on loan at Hillsborough where he scored nine goals in 39 appearances. The Owls had shown an interest in signing Varney permanently but their relegation from the Championship could scupper any deal.
Clough added: "Unfortunately, Sheffield Wednesday have gone down so we will have to wait and see what happens."
Varney has scored just one goal in 14 appearances for Derby, including 10 starts.
