Riyad Mahrez is back in the Leicester City setup after his desperate attempts to force a move from the club last month.

The Algerian submitted a transfer request following news of Manchester City’s interest and failed to turn up for training.

The deadline passed, but Mahrez’s frustrations did not. He continued to miss training in a self-imposed standoff that lasted for 10 days.

The 27-year-old eventually realised that he had little choice but to return and Leicester released a video of a seemingly happy Mahrez on his first day back in training.

It is believed that Mahrez felt the Foxes had broken a promise by refusing to let him leave and you can be sure that rumours of his exit will resurface in the summer.

But for now, the winger is back in Claude Puel’s plans and appears fully prepared to help Leicester in the remaining months of the campaign.

Vardy explains what Mahrez did when he returned

Jamie Vardy has given some insight into how Leicester’s players felt during Mahrez’s absence, and how the player felt about the situation.

The England international also explained why Mahrez gathered his teammates in the dressing room upon his return.

"It is what it is," Vardy told Sky Sports. "The bid came in, it was turned down, and you can understand his disappointment.

“But while he wasn't here we were having to get on with it. We are all professionals and had to play without him. It happens if he is injured or on the bench, so we just focused on the games.

“He came back, got us in the dressing room, explained the situation, and you move on.

“Everyone is exactly the same, they know what they have to do and their jobs. It was Riyad who wanted the meeting and got everyone in the dressing room and explained the situation, which is kept behind closed doors between us, and as far as everyone else is concerned that's that.

"You have to make sure it's like that, with the dressing room we have got everyone is a close-knit group so for him personally to want to do that shows what he is about."

Mahrez had little choice but to make amends with his coaches and teammates.

But don’t be surprised if he agitates for a move at the end of the season.
