The new Formula 1 season is fast approaching with the first race in Australia now less than a month away.

The teams have been revealing their cars in the last few weeks as they look to challenge the monopoly that Mercedes has held over the sport for the last four years.

With Lewis Hamilton at the wheel, Mercedes will again go into this year’s championship as favourites with the likes of Ferarri and Red Bull looking to mount a real challenge after the Italian giants’ title charge faltered dramatically last season.

However, it would seem that Hamilton’s eye has been caught by former team McLaren’s new eye-catching orange number. The McLaren-Renault MCL 33 was put on display by driver and former world champion Fernando Alonso on his Instagram and Hamilton is quite clearly a fan after leaving a comment on the post.

“Looks dope bro, McLaren looking as it should,” posted an impressed Hamilton before Alonso responded:

“Looks good man, hope to be closer to you guys.”

Considering how bitter the relationship between the two former team-mates used to be, it is fantastic to see them getting on well again.

However, it is quite likely that when the two take to the track in Australia that Hamilton will be streaking away from Alonso despite the Spaniard’s spiffy new look.

McLaren endured a nightmare year last time out, securing a measly 30 points in the Constructors’ Championship, a full 638 points less than Hamilton’s Mercedes team.

The English team were plagued by engine failure throughout the year, eventually leading them to sever ties with engine supplier Honda and strike up a new relationship with Renault.

Alonso will be hoping for a much more reliable year from his car after failing to finish as many as ten races in 2017.

There is no doubting that with the Spaniard at the wheel, McLaren have got the right man for the job as they look to rebuild their reputation and regain their standing amongst Formula 1's heavyweights.
