Jurgen Klopp wasn't afraid to shuffle the pack for the visit of West Ham to Anfield.Emre Can and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain replaced Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson in midfield, while it was Joel Matip who partnered up with Virgil van Dijk in place of Dejan Lovren. One man who kept his place, though, was a certain James Milner. After spending an entire season at left-back last year, the Englishman has been used far less often this season with Andrew Robertson helping to plug the gap at full-back.Of the 22 appearances Milner has made in the Premier League in 2017/18, ten of them have been from the bench.Nevertheless, the 32-year-old has remained a crucial part of Klopp's squad and was called into action on Saturday in his more traditional placing of midfield.

James Milner impresses v West Ham

It was certainly a busy afternoon for Milner, who looked to have been injured in a collision with Mark Noble but bravely fought on.

He also played a rather interesting role in Emre Can's opening goal, which will no doubt be debating on Match of the Day.

Above everything else, though, Milner seriously impressed Kopites with his sheer effort against one of the Premier League's most physical teams.

Milner's epic work rate and hints of Gerrard

Twitter was awash with posts declaring him a 'warrior' and a 'fighter', with some even comprising his attitude to Steven Gerrard's.

Check out the reaction:

Milner is often considered 'boring' but there was nothing dull about his work-rate against the Hammers.

Liverpool fans will inevitably draw comparisons between Milner's performance and the recent form of Henderson, too, who seems to divide opinions almost weekly.

Nevertheless, you can bet that Milner, regardless of form or circumstance, will give absolutely everything he has for Liverpool when the moment calls for it.
