On-loan Crewe keeper Steve Phillips is poised for shoulder surgery.
The 31-year-old, on loan from Bristol Rovers, will have an operation on his left shoulder on Wednesday. He will also receive rehabilitation on the right shoulder to rectify the problem which has been bothering him all season.
"Steve has had a problem with his shoulders for a while. We have listened to the medical advice and he will undergo an operation on one of his shoulders. He will receive rehab on the other one," said Alex boss Dario Gradi.
"He wouldn't have had both done at once anyway and we are trying to avoid him having surgery on the right one if we can.
"Steve has played through the pain barrier for a while and I've asked him to carry on if he could. He has done that to help us with the minimum of fuss."
Phillips played through the pain barrier until Crewe were safe from relegation - Adam Legzdins has deputised for the last two matches and will do so again for the final game of the campaign at home to Bradford on Saturday.
