Scunthorpe striker unsure of future

Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes does not know if he will be at Glanford Park next season.

Hayes is out of contract in the summer and though the Iron confirmed he had been offered a new deal, he has also had talks with Championship rivals Preston. He is pursuing a number options and also revealed he was on the verge of agreeing a new deal at the start of the season.

"We had talks last September and we were so close to reaching an agreement. It's disappointing we didn't," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph. "I feel that during the past two seasons at United I have reached the pinnacle of my career."

Hayes added: "I have been really happy here at Scunthorpe in both spells I have had with the club but being a professional footballer is a short career and I have to look after the interests of my family."
