Vincent Kompany has been through hell over the past couple of years at Manchester City, yet despite all of his injuries, he remains one of the world's best centre-backs on his day.Against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on Saturday the Belgian was nothing short of sensational and he even grabbed his side's second goal in the 3-0 win.Kevin De Bruyne's short corner found Ilkay Gundogan, who crossed for Kompany to divert the ball past David Ospina. It's been 10 years since Kompany joined City and even though there are doubts over his future, he remains happy at the club and is just relieved his injury woes are behind him - for now."I'm going to be honest, before the game I thought I was going to score," he said. "I came close a few times, it's just the luck on the day."You have to be prepared to put in those six months of hard work - look at [Benjamin] Mendy, he's got an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament injury).

"But it's worth the hard work to be standing out there. Every chance you have, you have to take.''

Kompany was solid throughout the 90 minutes and dominated his battle with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is one of the fastest strikers on the planet.

There was one moment in the 36th minute that surprised everyone, though. In the video below, Aubameyang gets played in behind City's defence and produces a lovely touch.

But then Kompany somehow catches up with the Gabon striker and then uses his strength to win the ball back. Check it out.

KOMPANY VS AUBAMEYANG

How on earth has Kompany managed that? It's worth bearing in mind that the 31-year-old has 63 pace on FIFA 18, whereas Aubameyang has 96.

Clearly Kompany isn't as slow as everyone thinks. Speaking in a post-match interview, he had a hilarious reaction when asked about beating Aubameyang in a race.

In response, Kompany literally "started laughing out loud" before saying: "Sometimes it's good to surprise people."

What a beast. Kompany will only hope he can repeat his performance when City travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal again on Thursday.

Arsenal will undoubtedly play better at home - they can't get much worse - and Aubameyang will be looking to exact revenge.
