Anthony Davis said he was ready to shoulder the responsibility of leading the New Orleans Pelicans to the playoffs after DeMarcus Cousins was ruled out for the season with an Achilles tear and he has proven that in incredible fashion. The power forward has been on a tear since his frontcourt partner went down and has kept the Pelicans firmly in the playoff hunt.He took his play to another level on Monday night as he erupted against the Phoenix Suns and put on a dominant display. The 24-year-old posted an outrageous 53 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, and five blocks on 16-of-29 shooting to lead his team to a 125-116 win.Davis also set a career-high by going 21-of-26 from the free-throw line, according to the Advocate's Christian Boutwell."Thank, you Anthony, for carrying us," Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday said, per ESPN. "Look at his numbers, man. He's something else."This is the latest offensive explosion by AD during an unbelievable stretch in the last six games.

He's averaged 41.5 points, 14.8 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 3.0 steals per game and the Pelicans are on a six-game winning streak as a result.

The five-time All-Star hasn't scored less than 27 points in those encounters, scoring at least 38 five times and more than 40 four times.

This outburst against the Suns doesn't come as a huge surprise as we've become accustomed to Davis' huge performances this month, which is a testament to just how great he has been.

Three Phoenix players - Dragan Bender, Alex Len, and Marqueese Chriss - all fouled out in the game as they struggled to contain the All-NBA forward.

"A lot of their bigs were in foul trouble. I just wanted to hang around the rim as much as possible, knowing I had the size advantage," Davis said. "We'll take any type of win, any type of way we can get it."

Naturally, the Brow's big night was trending on Twitter and got the NBA world talking.

Here are some of the best reactions:

The victory sees New Orleans improve to 34-26 in the stacked Western Conference and move to fifth, just 1.5 games behind the San Antonio Spurs in fourth.

They'll have a chance to close that gap further as they take on Gregg Popovich's men in their next encounter, looking to make it seven straight wins.

Securing a win on the road in San Antonio is a tough ask but with their superstar playing the way he is, they should feel confident that he can lead them to victory against any team right now.
