Wales manager Ryan Giggs has shared his honest opinion on Alexis Sanchez, five weeks after he was unveiled as a Manchester United player.

The Chilean forward, who had less than six months remaining on his contract at the Emirates, moved from Arsenal as part of a swap-deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Sanchez scored 30 goals in all competitions last season but has only netted once - in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield - in his seven appearances as a Man United player.

His arrival from north London has spelled trouble for 21-year-old Marcus Rashford, who is still yet to start a Premier League game in 2018.

"I just feel for people like Rashford," said Jamie Redknapp after United added Sanchez to their ranks. "They go down the pecking order and he's probably thinking 'where do I fit in now'?

"He might have to go in the end. It doesn't help your confidence. Every time you are training you think 'I'm not going to play on Saturday'.

"This is a great talent, make no mistake. He probably needs to go and play football somewhere.

"It is a shame but that's modern day football and that's why it's so hard for young British players to get opportunities."

Ryan Giggs delivers his Sanchez verdict

Despite starting every Premier League game since his January move, Sanchez has failed to hit the ground running in Manchester.

Briefly in charge of United in 2014, Giggs believes he knows why the former Arsenal superstar is yet to find his feet.

“He's a top player. What's he scored? One goal so far. So I'm sure he'd want to do better than that,” said Giggs, speaking ahead of the Laureus 2018 World Sports Awards, as per the Express.

"His team-mates are still trying to find out what he likes, what he doesn't like, the dynamics of the team.

“Sometimes it fits straight away, sometimes it takes a bit of time.

“I don't think anyone should be worried about Alexis Sanchez, he's a top, top player.”

Giggs makes a good point - Sanchez failed to score in his first four games as an Arsenal player but he went on to become a major success.

Second in the Premier League table, Jose Mourinho gave his players three days off after Sunday's 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Sanchez & co face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next Monday night.
