Nothing turns up the pressure quite like an 8-2 defeat to Manchester United, right?

Arsene Wenger was under serious scrutiny going into Deadline Day on 2011 when, after an already questionable summer of spending, he made a series of purchases widely regarding by the UK media as 'panic buys.' It's not difficult to see why.

In one way or another, though, it all worked out well for Wenger.

Despite starting the season with a 0-0 draw to Newcastle, a dreary 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool and THAT result at Old Trafford, Arsenal managed to turn around their campaign and finish third.

A hearty chunk of the credit lay with Robin van Persie and Alexandre Song as opposed to the new signings, with the former eventually leaving for Manchester United and the latter for Barcelona.

All in all, Wenger made 11 signings during that fateful summer before the most confusing and undulating of seasons. While there are some hits in the bunch, there's also a fair share of misses.

They have all had respectively crazy careers since, so take a look below to see how things have panned out after their involvement in the most un-Wenger of Arsenal transfer windows.

Carl Jenkinson

Verdict: Miss

A bizarre signing at the time but a dream move for the man concerned. Procured from Charlton Athletic for £1 million, Jenkinson is a boyhood Arsenal supporter and remains at the club with 62 appearances to his name.

Currently on loan at Birmingham City after two spells away with West Ham.

Jon Toral

Verdict: Miss

'Who?' we hear you ask. Toral was captured from the Barcelona youth ranks in 2011 but failed to make a single appearance for Arsenal's senior team. He embarked on loan spells with Brentford, Birmingham, Granada and Rangers before leaving permanently for Hull City in the summer.

Hector Bellerin

Verdict: Hit

Another capture from  Barcelona and what a signing this turned out to be for Wenger. Bellerin has gone on to make 149 appearances for the Gunners and stakes a claim as the Premier League's finest right-back.

Gervinho

Verdict: Miss

Fresh from the French champions, Gervinho achieved little to nothing across two seasons and 46 outings at the Emirates Stadium. Spent three seasons in AS Roma before eventually leaving for China and Hebei China Fortune F.C.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Verdict: Hit

Another one that Wenger got right, even if Oxlade-Chamberlain never truly kicked on as an Arsenal player. Last summer brought an end to seven seasons in north London before a Liverpool switch that is now starting to reap success.

Joel Campbell

Verdict: Miss

And we're back to the questionable signings. Campbell is still on the books at Arsenal and impressed during his season with the first-team in 2014-15 but has been tangled in loan moves for the last seven years at Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos, Sporting Lisbon and Betis again.

Park Chu-young

Verdict: Miss

Probably the worst of the bunch, Chu-young is a staple on lists of Arsenal's worst ever signings. He lasted just one season, only scoring once, before a forgettable spell at Watford in 2014 before spells in Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

Andre Santos

Verdict: Miss

Santos started so well - arriving as Brazil's first choice at left-back and scoring in a famous 5-3 victory at Stamford Bridge. That was as good as it got, though, with Santos swapping shirts with Van Persie at half-time against United in 2013 ahead of a departure the following year.

He has experienced a journeyman's career since at Premio, Flamengo, FC Goa, Botafogo, FC Wil and Boluspor.

Per Mertesacker

Verdict: Hit

A brilliant servant to Arsenal as the German enters his final season at the club, before retirement and plans to enter the club's coaching staff. The World Cup winner has accumulated 220 appearances and currently holds the captain's armband.

Yossi Benayoun

Verdict: Miss

A strange epoch in the midfielder's career where he spent time at Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all in the space of three seasons. Spent one year on loan at the Emirates, then moved to West Ham, returned to Chelsea, switched to QPR and eventually came home to Israel.

Mikel Arteta

Verdict: Hit

Arriving from Everton on Deadline Day, Arteta was a loved figure at the club yet offered very little after a solid first season. He saw out the rest of his career in north London, only to choose Manchester City as the place to launch his endeavours into coaching.
