Arsenal legend Ian Wright shared his honest opinion on Mesut Ozil ahead of Thursday night's humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City.

Man City beat Arsene Wenger's side by the same scoreline in the Carabao Cup final just four days earlier - and there was very little improvement at the Emirates.

Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Leroy Sane each scored a sublime goal in the first 35 minutes to end the match as a contest.

"Mentally we were strong," said Pep Guardiola after the convincing win. "We were clinical. We scored three outstanding goals.

"After that it was not easy - the first 15 minutes of the second half we were poor. Still, it's an amazing result for us."

Man City are now 30 points ahead of the Gunners, who look certain to miss out on a top four spot for the second consecutive season.

Having finally signed a new deal, Ozil recently became the highest paid player at Arsenal but his performances of late have been way off the mark.

Ian Wright proved right by Ozil's performance v City

The retired Arsenal striker has not been shy to criticise the former Real Madrid midfielder during his time in north London.

“When he [Ozil] is playing well, it hasn’t been too often, it is fantastic to watch," said Wright on The Debate on Sky Sports, as per The Sport Review.

“He simply doesn’t do it in big games. There is nothing I have seen in him that makes me think he is going to change that."

Ozil's underwhelming performance at the Emirates on Thursday night will do little to convince Wright to change his mind.

The 29-year-old midfielder has played 180 minutes against Man City this week but has done very little of note.

Ozil is expected to be in the starting XI on Sunday afternoon when Arsenal face a tricky trip to Brighton in the Premier League.
