Preston have completed the signature of Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old, who scored 13 goals this season and won the Iron's Player of the Year award, has agreed a three-year-deal at Deepdale. Hayes impressed during his second stint at Glanford Park after spells with Norwich, Barnsley and Huddersfield.

He told Preston's official club website: "I am very pleased to have this deal done, it has been in the press and kicking around for a long time and I am very pleased to be here now."

He added: "The manager sold it to me. I've had a few meetings with managers from other clubs but as soon as I got here he has welcomed me and my family and the manager, Darren Ferguson sold it to me.

"The club is very ambitious, with a very ambitious manager and I am at that point in my career where I need to push on with my career. I am hoping that this is the club to take my career forward."
