Kell Brook returns to the ring this weekend after almost a year out.

His opponent, Sergey Rabchenko, is no cake-walk, but he is most definitely a step down in quality from Brook’s two most recent opponents: Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr.

Whilst they were far tougher adversaries, a win against Rabchenko is still extremely important for Brook.

After bad back-to-back losses, and his trainer Dominic Ingle stating he wouldn’t fight more than three more times, Brook needs a victory if he is to get one final tilt at another championship.

Though world title are definitely in his sights, there does remain one mega-fight still surely on the horizon before Brook's final hoorah: Amir Khan.

The two have yet to face each other in the ring, despite their rivalry simmering away for more than a decade now.

Many within British boxing believe that that fight will be one of Brook's final three. So, the age-old question arises once again: who will win when the two fight?

Khan is coming off the back of his own devastating loss, the heavy knockout at the hands of Canelo was brutal, and hasn’t been in a fight for two years now either.

With his own bout lined up for late April, a lot will depend on how the pair of them come through their respective fights.

Carl Froch, meanwhile, believes that there is a definite front-runner right now, and had this to say when speaking to Sky Sports on the matter:

“I was going to say this would be a genuine 50-50, but the more I think about it, the more I would go for Brook.

"Yes, he is on the back of two losses, but we all know how good Gennady Golovkin is. Errol Spence Jr is very, very good too and could dominate the welterweight scene.

"That knockout of Khan was a heavy one. We have seen it in the past as well and after two years out, I just can't see the boy from Bolton doing what I can see Brook doing.”

Talk remains academic of course until something more meaningful materialises.

Let’s get these upcoming bouts done first, then we can speculate a little more seriously on the Khan-Brook fight we’ve all been waiting for.
