We're obviously long past the point of Lionel Messi needing an introduction - he'll almost certainly go down as the most talented footballer of all time.A five-time Ballon d'Or winner, a winner of four Champions League trophies and eight La Liga titles, individual records and awards that dwarf everyone else; Messi is a phenomenon that we'll likely never see the likes of again. And he may be 30-years-old now, but the Argentine is still able to find ways to astonish.Barcelona's crunch game with Atletico Madrid was always going to be one that demanded something from the two side's star men. With the Catalonian's requiring something special to break down Diego Simeone's side and Atletico relying on a bit of magic at the home of their title rivals, the game's build-up was focused on the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez, Antoine Greizmann, and Diego Costa. At least one of them would have to show off a bit of their magic, and unsurprisingly, it was Messi who did just that.Barca's number 10 curled in a beautiful free-kick with 25 minutes on the clock, leaving one of the world's best goalkeepers Jan Oblak desperately unable to answer it.The goal had an extra special meaning, too: the 600th goal of Messi's incredible career. You can watch Messi's fantastic free-kick below:Messi's 600th has come in just 747 games for club and country - a figure that will surely be nigh-on impossible to beat at the highest level.

Messi is being hailed as having one of the best seasons of his career thus far, with 23 goals and 12 assists in his 26 La Liga games before Sunday's visit of Atletico.

On top of that, he single-handedly dragged Argentina to the World Cup with a hattrick in a 3-1 win over Ecuador.

If he can take this season's form to Russia, then you can't rule out Messi managing to lift the one trophy that will always be held against him in the debate for the greatest ever.

Maradona and Pele both took their countries to the pinnacle of the game, and Messi will be judged accordingly.

But the season still isn't over and Barcelona still have trophies in their sights. La Liga is in their hands, the Champions League is an open field, and Messi is 600 and counting.
