Arsenal recorded their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions on Sunday after losing 2-1 to newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Gunners' poor start was punished by goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray, and even though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back, they couldn't find an equaliser.

Arsene Wenger was very active in the January transfer window, both in terms of incomings like record-signing Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and outgoings.

Alexis Sanchez joined rivals Manchester United in a swap deal involving Mkhitaryan, and here's what Arsenal fans were saying a few games into life without the Chilean.

Life after Alexis at Arsenal

Mathieu Debuchy, Francis Coquelin, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud all left the club, but so did Alexis, who scored an impressive 80 goals in 165 games at the Emirates Stadium.

Once all the speculation about Sanchez moving to Man Utd began, Wenger decided to leave him out on some occasions, and one of those was the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Arsenal blew the relegation-threatened side away with four goals inside 22 minutes, and in the first game after Alexis' move was confirmed, they beat Chelsea 2-1 to reach the Carabao Cup final.

They lost 3-1 at Swansea City, but they began February by destroying Everton 5-1 at the Emirates, with Aaron Ramsey bagging a hattrick and both Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang shining.

What Arsenal fans were saying after Alexis left

After a few matches without Sanchez, many Arsenal fans were claiming that the team looked more balanced, free, harmonious and confident without him.

Some supporters, who criticised Alexis' sometimes wayward over-the-top through balls, felt that they now don't lose possession as much.

Fast forward to now, and Arsenal have fallen so far off the pace that, in early March, it's already a mathematical fact that they can't win the league title this season.

Ahead of Thursday's trip to in-form AC Milan, this latest defeat at Brighton leaves Arsenal 13 points off the top four and with a record in 2018 of just four wins in 14 matches.
