Lennie Lawrence has left his post as director of football at Bristol Rovers after the League One club terminated his contract.

The former Charlton manager leaves the Memorial Stadium after four-and-a-half years with the Pirates, who will appoint an assistant manager to work alongside Paul Trollope.

Rovers chairman Nick Higgs told the club's official website: "I would like to thank Lennie for his hard work and commitment over the last four-and-a-half years, he will always be remembered at Bristol Rovers for helping us gain promotion to League One."

He added: "When we first appointed Lennie Lawrence as director of football and Paul Trollope as first-team coach (now manager) we realised that it was an arrangement that would not continue indefinitely."

Lawrence said: "I am proud to have been associated with the progress at this club over the last four-and-a-half years.

"I have a fantastic relationship with Paul Trollope, which remains strong."
