Will the real Alexis Sanchez please stand up?

It's fast approaching two months since the Chilean joined Manchester United from Arsenal and it's safe to say he's seriously underwhelmed.

In five Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, Sanchez has contributed just one goal - and even that came courtesy of a rebound from his own missed penalty.

His struggles reached new heights on Monday night as United came back from 2-0 down to beat Crystal Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park.

Sanchez lost the ball 19 times during the opening 45 minutes, 12 of which were misplaced passes, and only registered one shot at goal.

Not exactly what you'd expect from a supposed world-class forward who earns an eye-watering £500,000-per-week.

Due to the sheer amount of money Sanchez is being paid at United, Mourinho will inevitably persist with the Chile international and hope he can rediscover his form.

But how long will it be before Mourinho has no choice but to drop Sanchez and give someone else a try? That's the question Jamie Carragher posed on Monday Night Football.

Carragher believes Sanchez is being given special treatment at United because of who he is, whereas someone like Marcus Rashford would be dropped in an instant.

"It's early days in his United career," said Carragher of the 29-year-old. "He's quite erratic in terms of his ball possession and what he does with the ball.

"If he wasn't Alexis Sanchez, what he's done in the past, would he leave him out? He lost the ball 34, 35 times - it's astonishing for a player of that quality.

"If that was Rashford, he'd have no chance of playing at the weekend. He doesn't seem to have much discipline to his position."

Spot on from the Sky Sports pundit. Sanchez has been woeful for United since joining them in January and should be treated like any other player.

Monday night's performance against Palace showed the Chilean is struggling to gel with his new teammates, especially Paul Pogba, who also had a poor game.

Time and time again, Sanchez and Pogba tried to find each other with passes but were on completely different wavelengths.

Dropping Sanchez - even for just a game - is something Mourinho should seriously consider if his form doesn't improve, although that's easier said than done.
