With Liverpool 5-0 up from the first leg, Jurgen Klopp could afford to rest some of his star players for this evening’s Champions League last-16 second leg against FC Porto ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United this weekend.Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were named among the substitutes, while Adam Lallana, Joel Matip and James Milner came into the starting line-up.Lallana was handed his first start for two months by Klopp. The 29-year-old had an opportunity to show his manager why he should be starting week-in, week-out, following several weeks of cameo appearances. The technically-gifted England international, who arrived at Anfield from Southampton back in 2014, started on the left-hand side of Liverpool’s three-pronged attack which also featured Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. But what did Liverpool fans make of his performance?

Liverpool fans are making the same point about Lallana

Well, supporters watching the match from the comfort of their homes, rather than the stands, took to social media over the course of the 90 minutes - and they were all making the same point about the England international.

Fans were disappointed by his display and believe he shouldn’t start another game in Liverpool’s front three because he slows everything down.

Here’s a selection of some of the tweets about Lallana that were posted during tonight’s match…

Surely any player will look slow compared to Salah?

You can see where they’re coming from: Lallana isn’t particularly well-suited to counter-attacking football because he’s not exactly the quickest.

But then, is there another player in Europe right now as rapid with the ball as Salah?

Any other player was bound to look sluggish compared to the red-hot Egyptian winger.

Furthermore, given his lack of game-time in recent weeks, it was unlikely that Lallana would be on top of his game this evening.
