As a result, Salah took his place on the Anfield bench alongside the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Virgil van Dijk as the Reds breezed through to the quarter-finals with a 0-0 draw.
There was reason to suggest Jurgen Klopp wasn't happy with a goalless game, however, with Salah eventually entering the fray in the 74th minute.
If nothing else, it would give Salah a few extra minutes and Kopites hope of breaking down their Portuguese opponents. And while, ultimately, it wasn't to be, the 25-year-old still produced a few moments of magic during the match.
In fact, his very first touch of the game was something special in itself.
The Egyptian channelled his inner Dennis Bergkamp to kill the ball dead on the right wing after Dejan Lovren had delivered a diagonal pass no less than 50 yards. He managed to control the ball effortlessly, despite being under pressure from a Porto defender.

You'd be mistaken for thinking he coated his boots in superglue before coming on - what a way to introduce yourself into the game.
It's the latest example of how effortlessly brilliant Salah has been this season and it's little things like this that continue to wow Liverpool supporters.

He wasn't the only Liverpool player dishing out the tekkers, though, with Emre Can pulling off a cheeky nut meg on Andre Andre that the club's official account and the Champions League couldn't help tweeting about.
Nevertheless, it wasn't to help a Liverpool performance that failed to inspire but simply didn't have to.
Kopites can now begin to wonder what their exciting, attacking outfit can achieve in the final eight of the Champions League and beyond. Whatever happens, you just know it'll be entertaining from Liverpool.
