Real Madrid emerged victorious against Paris Saint-Germain last night in what was the battle of two European giants.Although they went into the tie as underdogs, Zinedine Zidane's men were able to take a 3-1 advantage going into the second leg in France, putting them in pole position to advance to the quarter-finals.And their task was made even easier given the absence of PSG's star player Neymar, which severely damaged the French side's chances of making a second leg comeback. And after a goalless second half, the Spaniards effectively put the tie to bed thanks to a header from Cristiano Ronaldo. And although Edinson Cavani pulled one back for the French outfit with 20 minutes remaining, Casmeiro ensured Los Blancos would advance to last eight with a goal ten minutes from time, keeping Real Madrid's dream of winning Europe's biggest prize three years in a row alive.

RONALDO AND DANI ALVES TUSSLED THROUGHOUT

Alves and Ronaldo will be well accustomed to each other from the former's time in Spain, and the duo showed there was no love lost between the pair in yesterday's game.

The two players battled throughout, and just 15 minutes into the game Ronaldo had seemingly already become annoyed with the Brazilian's presence.

With the ball on the left wing and both Ronaldo and Alves chasing after it, play was called back as the Real Madrid superstar was adjudged to have been offside.

With Alves shoving past Ronaldo in an attempt to restart play as quickly as possible, the Portuguese suddenly saw red and appeared to kick out at his opponent.

Fortunately for Ronaldo and Real Madrid he got away with the incident; otherwise the tie could have been very different.

TWITTER ACCUSES ALVES OF DOING SOMETHING DISGUSTING

All credit to Alves for the altercation with Ronaldo in the 15th minute: he potentially could have made the most of the kick and try to get the 33-year-old sent off.

But, Twitter spotted what he did to Real Madrid's number seven later on in the game, and if he mean't it, it is absolutely disgusting.

With Alves and Ronaldo again side-by-side during a stoppage of play, Alves seemed to wipe his nose on his hand, before wiping it on the sleeve of the Portuguese legend.

Many on Twitter believed it to be intentional, and were furious at the Brazilian's actions.

TWITTER REACTS

The evidence is pretty damning, but it is still unclear whether Alves' intentions were deliberate or not.

But if he did mean to do it, that is just wrong.
