The Big Show was in the headlines last month. However, his name didn’t resurface because of an impact he made in WWE, but it was because of important updates on his recent lack of activity.Several news outlets started to report that The Big Show’s WWE contract was expiring in February 2018 and that the company wasn’t going to sign him to a new deal. Instead, he’d phase out of in-ring competition without a big send-off and transition into a backstage role - similar to fellow big-man, Mark Henry.

CONTRACT

The Big Show has been a loyal servant to Vince McMahon and the WWE, so it comes as no surprise that he’s been rewarded with multiple championship victories in the past. Now, however, his role seems to revolve around making the other, younger big-men look a lot better and provide the likes of Braun Strowman with much-needed advice on how to succeed.

Over the past year or so, though, the World’s Largest Athlete hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck. Although there weren’t ever any plans to make The Big Show reach the pinnacle of the WWE again, there were solid plans in place for him to have a marquee match against NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal last year.

The former Lakers star, though, pulled out and his follow-up interview is where he revealed his contract was expiring.

At the time, he said: “It is a little frustrating because my contract ends in February 2018. So I don’t know what’s going to happen between now and then. I don’t know if there will be an opportunity for me next year at WrestleMania or not.

“I don’t know because there’s a lot of superstars breaking out and I’ve done my time. This was perhaps my last opportunity to have a featured match at WrestleMania. And I would have had a good time working with Shaq.”

RETIREMENT?

So, the news outlets can’t be blamed for making the contract expiration news resurface again. However, although The Big Show originally stated that WrestleMania 33 would be his final chance to have a featured match on that stage, it looks as if he’s going back on those remarks based on his recent Twitter activity.

Sitting inside of a gym, The Big Show shot down those rumours with one simple tweet.

He posted: “Haven’t gone anywhere…”

It’s safe to assume that The Big Show could be getting ready to make another comeback following on from the disappointment last year. This is backed up by a recent interview he did with UPI.com where he revealed that he’d be making his return before WrestleMania with his hip surgery troubles now, hopefully, behind him.

Considering what The Big Show has been able to achieve and what he’s done, he deserves to go out on his terms rather than phasing out quietly.
