Kylian Mbappé is warming to his task at Paris Saint-Germain nicely this season, despite having the weight of the world's expectations on him.

The 19-year-old has 16 goals and 14 assists in 35 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 leaders this term, despite being deployed on the wing, in a deadly trio with Edinson Cavani and Neymar.

Mbappé will cost PSG the best part of £166m when they take up the obligation to buy him this summer following his current loan from Monaco, and that could look like serious value in the coming years.

He already has 10 French caps to his name, scoring once in those games, and 10 strikes in 17 Champions League outings for both of his clubs combined.

With PSG 14 points clear at the top of the league table with only 10 games left, it is also pretty much certain he'll add another Ligue 1 winners medal to his collection, plus two chances in the domestic cups.

So even though the Parisiens under-performed in the Champions League with their exit to Real Madrid, things are still looking pretty good for Mbappé.

However, things could potentially have turned out a lot differently for the Frenchman.

Mbappé has revealed that he once had a weeks' trial at Chelsea, where he featured in a solitary game for the Blues.

He says that he earned valuable experience from his time in west London, and that it helped him get an understanding of foreign football.

"I was still young back then, maybe 10 or 11," Mbappe started. "I went to London and spent just under a week over there.

"I trained at Chelsea and we played a friendly match against Charlton Athletic. We won 6-0 or 7-0. I played upfront, but I don't think I scored.

"It was  great – it was my first experience abroad and a chance for me to see what the game was like in England."

Given their recent struggles, particularly up front, Chelsea fans must be wishing he'd impressed club scouts enough at the time to keep an eye on his development.

Alvaro Morata hasn't scored a single goal in 2018, while Olivier Giroud is struggling to get enough game time to build up a head of steam.

Mbappé on the other hand will only go from strength-to-strength, and his potential value is astronomic given the way the transfer market is going.

However, PSG will be hoping he continues to development into the world-beater that everyone thinks he can be, and can guide them eventually to a Champions League success.

For the mean time though, they will have to focus on actually progressing past the quarter-final stage for the first time in their history when they come back into the competition next season.
