Yesterday - March 8 - marked the one-year anniversary of one of the finest matches in Champions League history.Trailing 4-0 from the first leg of their round-of-16 tie, Barcelona had no right to progress to the quarter-final.They tried their hardest, scoring three goals in the first 50 minutes at the Camp Nou, but Edinson Cavani’s goal seemingly ended the tie as a contest.Everyone knows how the story unfolded. Three goals in the final seven minutes, capped off by Sergi Roberto’s effort to make it 6-1 on the night, sealed what will go down as the greatest comeback of all-time.It was a wonderful story for Roberto, who rose through Barcelona’s academy and will never have to buy a drink in Catalonia again. The 26-year-old will be reminded about his goal for the rest of his life and he revealed to Barcelona’s website this week that he couldn’t sleep that night, which isn’t that surprising in all honesty."The night after the goal I couldn't sleep," Roberto said. “I am very happy because people always remind me of this goal."

Roberto has proven his importance to Barcelona

It was thought that the arrival of Nelson Semedo in the summer would leave Roberto stuck on the bench but that hasn’t been the case; Roberto has made 33 appearances in all competitions, including 18 starts in La Liga.

And it’s easy to see why Ernesto Valverde values Roberto so much given his versatility.

What Messi told Roberto on the phone

The Spaniard made an appearance on Spanish radio show RAC1 this week and he was joined by none other than Lionel Messi on the phone.

Messi very often shies away from media responsibilities but when it came to talking about Roberto, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner couldn’t stop lavishing praise on his teammate.

Messi even said to Roberto: “You have become of the best full-backs in the world.” Class.

A Reddit user has translated Messi’s comments in full.

“Hi Sergi! Just wanted to be present in this programme you're a guest on, I remember that goal (versus PSG) was incredible, you did very well that day,” Messi said.

“Wanted to congratulate you for that, your contract extension, I still remember that when you started to play as a full-back, I asked you if you liked it there, and your face told me no, and today you have become one of the best full-backs in the world, so hopefully it keeps going like this, and that we can enjoy and share many more years.

“I send you a big hug and the best for you.”
