There was a pleasant feeling of surprise amongst Arsenal fans last night as they swept their terrible form under the rug with a 2-0 win at the San Siro. While AC Milan are not the European juggernauts they used to be, many Gooners forecast their club suffering defeat at the hands of the Rossoneri. Furthermore, Gennaro Gattuso's men entered the match unbeaten in 13 and Arsenal stepped off the plan fresh from defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.Nevertheless, it took just 15 minutes for the north London club to break the deadlock with Henrikh Mkhitaryan bagging his first goal for the club.Aaron Ramsey then doubled the advantage in the first-half stoppage time after a moment of magic from Mesut Ozil who claimed the assist. It looks almost certain - although you can never be sure with Arsenal - that the Gunners will progress to the Europa League quarter-finals and keep their hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

Wenger and Xhaka's shouting match v AC Milan

That being said, the impressive result wasn't completely void of friction with Granit Xhaka producing a seemingly foul-mouth, albeit trivial, moment in the dying seconds of the match.

Reports of dressing room unrest and player meetings have been rife recently with Arsenal seemingly on the brink of self-destruction.

So, Arsenal fans will be relieved that Wenger reacting angrily to Xhaka ballooning a long range effort over the bar was the nadir of the night.

Fans think they know what Xhaka said

That being said, it was certainly eyebrow raising to see the Arsenal midfielder speak the way fans suspected he did to his own manager.

Take a look at the clip below:

To say Wenger was hacked off with Xhaka's strike would be putting things mildly, only for Xhaka to turn in the direction of the dug out and seemingly reply: "Oh common, f**k off!" The camera even picks up Ramsey having a little chuckle at the episode.

Check out the reaction below with fans turning their hand to lipreading:

Very brave, Granit.

Ultimately, both Wenger and Xhaka should probably have calmed down with the game just seconds away from the full-time whistle.

Nevertheless, it's hard to see Wenger allowing his player to get away with language like that and the footage certainly suggests fan are right.

It would be slightly masochistic to focus on negatives after a night where Arsenal showed fight and quality for the first time since the 5-1 thrashing of Everton. There's a glimmer of hope for the Gunners and Wenger, whether some of the fans like it or not.
