It's been a topsy-turvy season for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, but on Saturday lunchtime, he enjoyed one of his finest moments at Old Trafford. The Red Devils took a giant step to finishing second in the Premier League by beating direct rivals Liverpool 2-1.Marcus Rashford scored both goals for United, while Eric Bailly added to the tension in the second half with a comical own goal. However, Mourinho's defensive tactics and setup held out to seal a priceless victory, one which puts them in great stead for their crucial Champions League tie against Sevilla on Tuesday.Ashley Young did a fantastic job marshalling the dangerous Mohamed Salah, while Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic were imperious in the middle of the park.Perhaps the only bizarre decision from Mourinho was when he hauled off goalscorer Rashford instead of Alexis Sanchez, with the Chilean turning in yet another worryingly poor display. And, BT Sport regular Robbie Savage made a great point about the Special One after the result, one which will also antagonise Tottenham fans.

SAVAGE SPEAKS THE TRUTH

He has a point, doesn't he?

Now, a lot of people will point out Mourinho's spending while at Old Trafford, but surely the fact that he's ahead of Spurs in every department suggests he is using the funds correctly?

And let's not forget that Pochettino has spent a fair bit, with the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura all arriving for pretty substantial fees.

One thing is certain, it would be hugely interesting to see Mourinho and Pochettino swap roles for a season.

MOURINHO REACTS TO LIVERPOOL WIN

He said to Sky Sports: "We can split the halves - United first half and Liverpool second but in my opinion our first half was a half with goals and danger.

"In the second half - in my opinion, and probably the people in the studio have a different opinion - was Liverpool controlling with the ball and United controlling without the ball.

"Our team was always in control. Even in set pieces, corners, dangerous situations we were in control so I think we deserved it.

"Against Liverpool if you play bad when you have the ball you can be in trouble. In the second half it was not our intention - I cannot say this was the plan. Liverpool pushed us into defensive situation but we kept control. It was a complete performance by us with two different halves.

"If people don't think we deserved it, I don't care.

"I am a bit tired, we have a match on Tuesday. I don't care what people say. The boys are happy, I'm happy."
