On current form, some of the world's finest strikers would struggle to break into Liverpool's attack this season with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah forming an omnipotent trio.

The trio have been in such glittering form this season, that the Reds could afford to loan Daniel Sturridge out to West Brom and a certain Divock Origi has become something of a forgotten man at the club.

Signing for Liverpool in 2014, the Belgian spent a year out on loan with Lille, before scoring 21 goals across two campaigns at Anfield and is now spending 2017-18 in Germany with Wolfsburg.

Origi showed promise during his time in the Liverpool first-team, yet it's easy to get the impression that a spell in the Bundesliga might be his last chance to impress Jurgen Klopp.

Considering the year abroad could be his final role of the dice, however, very little has been said about Origi's time in Germany - so what's going on with the 22-year-old right now?

Divock Origi in decline at Wolfsburg

The Belgian flew out the blocks in a Wolfsburg jersey, scoring four goals in his first 11 starts only for the arrival of winter to slam the brakes on Origi's spell at Volkswagen Arena.

Origi embarked on a 10 goal drought, that he only recently ended in February, and made headlines for all the wrong reasons in December for an inexplicable open-goal miss against RB Leipzig.

He still has just five goals to his name, despite approaching 30 appearances in green this season.

Divock Origi's disasterclass v Hoffenheim

And his spell with Wolfsburg was painfully compounded at the weekend during Wolfsburg's toothless 3-0 defeat at the hands of Hoffenheim.

Origi was given the nod from the start, yet didn't make half-time with manager Bruno Labbadia spectacularly substituting his star striker after just 42 minutes and 18 touches. It was very much for tactical reasons, too.

After the match, sporting director Olaf Rebbe remarked: "We'll discuss behind closed doors what the reason for [his performance] was.

"This was not a good match from Divock, you need to make that clear. We need to analyse how those 42 minutes could happen. This was not what we agreed upon during the week."

Ouch.

So it's fair to say Origi isn't enjoying himself at Wolfsburg right now and will raise serious questions over his future at Liverpool.

It's important to remember that the Belgian is still relatively young at age 22, but all the hype and expectation around him will need to be met sooner rather than later. Furthermore, there must be justified doubts over Origi's ability to fly in the Premier League when he's struggling in the Bundesliga.

Throw in the fact Mane, Salah and Firmino are scoring for fun at the moment, too, and it looks a long road ahead for Origi.
