One of the most common matches WWE fans are now used to seeing at WrestleMania is a ladder match where a championship title is on the line. It’s hardly ever a one on one match either. The habit WWE has had following the removal of the Money in the Bank - which now has its own pay-per-view - is that they throw together a bunch of big names and create absolute carnage. For example, take a look at the Hardy Boyz’ win when they returned last year at WrestleMania 33.

LADDER MATCHES

Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 31 and Zack Ryder at WrestleMania 32 are just two of the recent winners of the multi-man ladder matches where both men left with the Intercontinental Championship.

This year in the build-up to WrestleMania 34, The Miz is currently booked to defend his Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match against both Finn Balor and Seth Rollins - a match the WWE Universe is looking forward to.

However, there’s still some speculation on WWE potentially changing this match yet again which might see the likes of Elias, Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe added to the match. If this is the case, then the assumption will be that WWE turns it into another ladder match as it will feature around five or six stars and whenever that happens at the Grandest Stage of Them All, this is what WWE tends to do.

NXT

Although, this year it could be different with Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter speculating that WWE might not host a ladder match this year. The reason for this is what’s happening the night before WrestleMania, where the new NXT North American Championship will be on the line in a six-man ladder match.

EC3, Ricochet, Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan and Killian Dain of SAnitY will battle it out to be crowned the inaugural champion. With WWE planning something as big as this for NXT, Meltzer believes that WWE won’t have another ladder match 24 hours later.

According to Ringside News, he said: “My gut [says] there is no ladder match at WrestleMania because it makes no sense to do a ladder match on Saturday if you are going to do one at WrestleMania.”

This does make sense. This is a chance for the stars of NXT to make a real impact at WrestleMania weekend and have the fans buzzing about what they just saw in a gimmick match which isn’t common on NXT.

If WWE decides to have both, then the main roster stars could outshine those on NXT and make the latter more forgettable than what occurs at WrestleMania 34.

We’ve seen that multi-man matches on the main roster can be incredible without any gimmicks, such as the WWE Championship match at Fastlane. If WWE is torn between a decision, removing a ladder match at WrestleMania would be the more beneficial decision.
