Unemployed Dutch coach Frank De Boer has responded to Jose Mourinho after being labelled the "worst manager in Premier League history".

The 47-year-old coach lasted just four Premier League games at Crystal Palace earlier this season, losing every game, before being sacked.

Working as a pundit for BT Sport, De Boer had questioned Mourinho's management of Marcus Rashford following the 20-year-old's Man of the Match display against Liverpool.

It was Rashford's first Premier League start of 2018 but the Portuguese coach was irritated at De Boer's comments.

Mourinho responded: "I read something, some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier League, Frank de Boer, saying it was not good for Rashford to have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win.

"If he was coached by Frank he would lose because he lost every game. I try to give the best to the kid."

De Boer responds to Mourinho's brutal criticism

Mourinho's reputation took a major blow on Tuesday night after Man United were eliminated from the Champions League by Sevilla.

It would've been a great opportunity for De Boer to "go in on" Mourinho but the Dutchman took a more mature route with his response.

"I have a lot of respect for Mourinho as a coach." said De Boer, as per Dutch media outlet AD.

"He has already won many trophies, is tactically very strong and knows how to disrupt the game of every opponent. Well, I can learn a lot from that."

That's how a manager with class responds.

De Boer added: "I meant nothing personal about it, when I spoke about how Mourinho manages and the role that Marcus Rashford has under him at United.

"That method of management, that is a different view than we are used to in the Netherlands.

"But in the philosophy of Mourinho and Manchester United that is different. And that is also their right."

Rashford started on the right-wing against Sevilla but was far less effective and Mourinho's side were beaten 2-1 on aggregate.
