Lionel Messi never fails to astound, does he?The 30-year-old Argentine was at it again on Wednesday night as Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 second leg victory over Chelsea to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals 4-1 on aggregate.Messi scored two goals at the Nou Camp and silenced all of the noise before the tie that he had failed to score against Chelsea before. Barcelona's No.10 also scored the Catalan giants' goal at Stamford Bridge in the first leg to boot.Chelsea can have no complaints with the result of the tie - Barcelona thoroughly deserved to go through and Messi proved to be the difference between the two sides.Chelsea boss Antonio Conte approached the five-time Ballon d'Or winner at full-time with a big smile on his face, clearly just resigned to the fact he had just watched the best player in the world dismantle his team. After the game, it should come as no surprise that Gary Lineker, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand were talking about Messi and waxing lyrical on his imperious display in yet another big game.Lineker is a well-documented Messi fan and has openly called him the greatest 'player' of all-time.However, Ferdinand is a former teammate of Ronaldo's from their time at Manchester United together and while he has never taken anything away from Messi, he has been a vocal supporter of Ronaldo.Watch the clip below to see the former England defender perfectly describe the difference between the two men:

"I think him [Lionel Messi] and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best players, and the difference between them is that Cristiano goes out there and just says 'give me the ball in areas where I can score a goal' - he's a goalscorer," Ferdinand said. "Cristiano Ronaldo is not bothered about being on the halfway line and the rhythm of the game, he wants to be on the knife edge of the game.

"Whereas Messi, you sometimes see him in the defensive midfielder position, picking up the ball, playing one-twos, just playing with the opposition and biding his time - he's involved in the rhythm of the game constantly and that's the difference between the two players."

Lineker had insisted earlier in the night that while Ronaldo's goalscoring has to be respected, there is no doubt that Messi is the best out-and-out footballer on the planet and Ferdinand went on to support those claims.

Do you agree with Rio?
