Manchester United fans are still waiting to see the best of Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford. The Chilean, who arrived in a swap deal with Arsenal in January, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way, has found the net just once in 10 appearances for the Red Devils. It’s too early to say for certain but there are a growing number of Arsenal fans who feel that they got the better end of the deal.Sanchez disappointed as Man United crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday. He lost the ball 42 times in the 2-1 defeat to Sevilla, the most for any player in the competition this season. In the aftermath of the defeat, one stat that sums up Sanchez’s brief Man United stat began to do the rounds on social media. The 29-year-old has lost possession 247 times since he joined United; the next highest is Ashley Young, who has given the ball up 143 times in the same span.

Now, losing possession isn’t a sign of a bad player; Kevin De Bruyne has done so 664 times in the Premier League this season and he is the Player of the Year in the eyes of many.

But when you’re also not producing goals or assists, it becomes a concern.

What Wenger said to Sanchez before he left

You have to wonder how Arsene Wenger feels about the deal now. Two months ago, he was desperate for Sanchez to stay.

The Chile international has revealed just how desperate, by revealing what Wenger said in an attempt to convince him to stay.

“He was very fond of me and he didn't want to let me go," Sanchez told Chilean television, per the Mirror.

"He told me, 'I want you to sign here because you are the best player in the team.'

"I wanted to continue growing as a player, more so as a Chilean, because it’s difficult to get to Manchester United.

"No Chilean had played here. Arsene understood it at last, we ended up on good terms, he congratulated me and there was no problem."

It wasn’t just the chance to play for Man United that swayed Sanchez, but also the opportunity to become the Premier League’s highest-paid player.

Sanchez earns £350,000-per-week at Old Trafford and such vast sums fill him with pride.

"Being the best-paid in the Premier League fills me with pride at being Chilean,” he added.
