There are many fans who would like to see John Cena wrestle The Rock one more time.

The Rock is regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

He picked up his popularity in the mainstream while working in the WWE from 1996 to 2004 and was the first third-generation wrestler in the company's history.

He returned to WWE part-time from 2011–13 and continues to make sporadic appearances for the company.

During his time with the company, he is an eight-time WWE Champion, two-time WCW/World Champion, two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and a five-time WWE Tag Team Champion. He is the sixth Triple Crown Champion in WWE and won the 2000 Royal Rumble.

The former WWE Champion is one of the most famous wrestlers in the world today and one of the biggest names of all time.

If you recall, Cena was first introduced as a babyface on the SmackDown brand back in 2002 when he made his debut with the company in a singles match against Kurt Angle.

They would later turn Cena into a heel, and he would portray that character until 2004 when he turned into a babyface.

After winning the WWE Title from John Bradshaw Layfield at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, the sports entertainment company has continued to keep him as a babyface due to his popularity with younger fans.

For years now, the older male audience has called for the former WWE Champion to turn heel and go to the dark side. Not only because they want to change Cena from being portrayed as a babyface, which he has done for over a decade but also because he was such a great heel back in the day.

Of the last few years, Cena’s career and focus has been on making it in Hollywood by being an actor.

The Rock beat Cena at WrestleMania 28 in Miami, Florida then the next year at WrestleMania 29, Cena beat The Rock to win the WWE Title in New Jersey.

Mike Johnson of PWinsider.com caught up with Cena on Friday while at the WrestleMania 35 press conference. During the interview, Cena was asked about a potential third match with The Rock. Here is what he had to say (transcript courtesy of RingSide News):

“As WrestleMania goes and certainly, my road to WrestleMania this year is no different, it’s that if predicting or trying to lobby for a certain position, I think that I made an example of doing what is asked of me at the best of my abilities and I think that covers what the future will hold.”

“If you look at Rock vs. Cena at Metlife, it’s very different than Rock vs. Cena in Mia. I think Rock vs. Cena at Metlife is the beginning of a long-term showing of mutual respect for each other. I was very close-minded and very WWE centric on what The Rock was doing. Now, he is absolutely the biggest name in entertainment and to be able to say that The Rock is a WWE superstar and he’s the biggest name in entertainment that does more for the WWE than anything I could possibly comprehend.

So basically I was just too stupid to understand that and I think the existence of the match in Metlife was a great coming of age for me and a great life experience as well. So, I’ll always remember that. Personally, it would have to be pretty big to top that first time around at Metlife but if WWE finds a way to do it all the time, every time.”
