Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has no intention of allowing defender Steven Taylor to leave the club this summer.

The 24-year-old has been linked with several of the Magpies' Barclays Premier League rivals in the wake of an alleged training ground bust-up with Andy Carroll just as he was closing in on a return from the knee injury which sidelined him for the second half of last season.

But Hughton is determined to keep hold of one of the club's home-grown talents.

He said: "He's a big talent and a local lad with the club at heart. We will always endeavour to keep our best players, and he goes into that category."

He added: "It's been frustrating for him, but he will come back fit and fresh for next season and now has a chance to play pre-season."
