Earlier this week, Dolph Ziggler emerged as a shock candidate to battle Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 34 this year. Obviously, this had taken everyone by surprise considering the storyline the SmackDown LIVE commissioner has been involved in for many months now.

Despite making the singles match official for April 8 next month, it’s widely expected that Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn won’t be going ahead as planned. Instead, Shane O’Mac is expected to feature one way or another - regardless of whether it switches to a triple threat match or WWE creates a tag team match instead.

SURPRISING MATCH

Although Ziggler’s name seemingly came out of nowhere, Brad Shepard of Bodyslam.net has revealed some important details of the feud during the latest episode of Backstage in WWE with Brad Shepard and Jon Fisher.

“I don’t know if that’s going to stick. We’ll see what happens, but I am not sure why that changed but certainly, they had a graphic for it and everything.

“That was the plan for sure and I don’t know why it changed. It was going to be Dolph Ziggler’s first singles match at WrestleMania. We’ll see what happens. I don’t know what they are going to do but I know that was the original plan.”

It certainly looks like that Shane is going to feature in the match with Owens and Zayn, especially since the devastating attack he suffered on SmackDown this week.

What this means for Ziggler now remains unclear.
