Blackpool claim Premier League place

Brett Ormerod hit the £90million goal to fire Blackpool to the most lucrative, and unlikeliest, of promotions to the Barclays Premier League after a 3-2 win over Cardiff at Wembley.

The unfashionable Lancashire side, who were in the bottom division just nine years ago, will be rubbing shoulders with Chelsea and Manchester United next season after a thrilling triumph in the Coca-Cola Championship final.

Cardiff, bidding to become the first Welsh side in the Premier League, led twice through Michael Chopra and Joe Ledley but they were pegged back by Charlie Adam and Gary Taylor-Fletcher before veteran frontman Ormerod cracked the winner in first-half stoppage time.
