Scunthorpe are leading the chase to sign Chris Dagnall, according to the Rochdale striker.
The 24-year-old, who scored 20 goals as Dale clinched promotion from League Two this season, is out of contract after four years at Spotland and is being chased by a host of clubs.
He met Iron boss Nigel Adkins for talks this week and Dagnall told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "It was just a general first meeting to see what my ideas are and what the club's ideas are. It was a good chat and I was happy enough with how it went."
He added: "I have had a couple of phone calls from other clubs but I have not had any meetings with anyone else.
"At this moment in time, my main choice would be Scunthorpe. That is my number one. I am impressed by how they have done in the last couple of years and it is flattering for me to have a club like Scunthorpe showing interest in me.
"I just want to play at the highest level I can and Scunthorpe are in the Championship, which is a pretty high level. It is a big step up if I do get the chance to go there, but I am sure it would be a good move for me."
