One of the best moments in WWE history didn't even take place on WWE TV, but instead on a YouTube video to promote a video game.

Back in 2012 2K Sports posted a video on their channel with WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin and then-WWE Champion CM Punk sitting on either side of WWE commentator "Good Ole' JR" Jim Ross.

The trio did a video to promote the upcoming WWE 2K13 video game at the time. Punk and Austin put over the game, but at the same time teased an interesting rivalry between themselves with a war of words.

Fans were at the edge of their seats as two of the best workers on the microphone went toe-to-toe with insults, making the WWE Universe salivate at the possibility that Austin could return to the ring for a feud with Punk.

A program between Punk and Austin certainly has the capability to be one of the biggest rivalries in WWE history, as the two men have some of the most charisma in the history of the business. Fast-forward five years later and, of course, nothing between the pair ever happened on WWE TV.

Punk has since departed from the professional wrestling world in favor of a career in mixed martial arts (MMA), and Austin remains happily retired and hosts one of the most successful wrestling podcasts in the world.

The company did, however, tease something between the two several months before the 2K video when Austin was hosting RAW, however, nothing ever came out of it. Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer was recently asked about this on his radio show.

He was asked how much of a possibility this was from happening and if WWE ever had any ideas to make this feud happen. Meltzer broke fans' hearts by saying this feud was never legitimately in the cards for WWE to make happen (quotes via Ringside News):

"No. It was not close at all. It was never going to happen."

What are your thoughts on WWE never pursuing a possible angle between CM Punk and Stone Cold Steve Austin? Do you think that a feud between Punk and Austin is something WWE fans would've loved to see?
