Floyd Mayweather has been in the headlines of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world for the past year.

That's due in large part to his superfight inside the boxing ring against UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. McGregor took a significant amount of time away from the MMA world to focus solely on boxing training.

The Irishman wholeheartedly believed he had what it took to do what 49 other professional boxers before him couldn't do - beat Floyd Mayweather.

Unfortunately for McGregor that's not how things went down. McGregor had a decent showing in the opening rounds of the fight, but that's cause "Money" was taking rounds off to let the MMA champ exhaust himself.

Eventually when McGregor was already tired Mayweather poured on the offense and battered the Irishman on the feet. The referee finally stopped the fight in the 10th round after several unanswered shots from Mayweather.

Since the bout's conclusion Mayweather has been teasing jumping over to the MMA world for a few fights inside the Octagon. He claims he can make nearly a billion dollars in the move.

TMZ recently caught up with Mayweather in Las Angeles to get his thoughts on rumors that he could be going over to the MMA world for a potential fight with Conor McGregor. Mayweather did note that UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley could be training him.

Now Mayweather has taken his talk to a whole different level in regards to an MMA move. He claims that he will be applying for an MMA license that will allow him to fight inside the cage (quotes via LowKickMMA):

“Everything takes time. Eventually, we’re gonna apply for the license, and hopefully we can fight,” Mayweather said.

Mayweather didn't mention a fight inside the Octagon with Conor McGregor specifically, but he did tease the idea during the build-up for their boxing fight last year. McGregor has been extremely vocal over his desire to fight "Money" inside the cage.

What are your thoughts on Mayweather claiming he will apply for an MMA license and wants a significant amount of time to train? Do you think that Mayweather will be approved for an MMA license to compete against legitimate competition? And how successful can "Money" be inside the MMA world?
