Scunthorpe skipper Cliff Byrne has signed a new two-year deal at Glanford Park.

The 28-year-old Irish defender's current deal was due to expire later this summer, but he has now committed himself to the club until 2012.

Byrne, who initially arrived on loan from Sunderland in November 2002 and made the move permanent in June 2003, has won promotion on three occasions with the Iron, making a total of 294 appearances and scoring seven goals.
