Wayne Rooney believes England have a great chance of lifting the World Cup this summer, despite a wealth of competition for the trophy.

In an exclusive interview with England and Manchester United team mate Rio Ferdinand, Rooney speaks about his early memories of the World Cup and playing with one of his heroes.

Speaking to Ferdinand’s ‘#5 Magazine’, Rooney said: “I think we [England] have a good chance if we get some players back [from injury].

“We have some players that can win games for us which is important. Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Jermaine Defoe can all win a game for you,” he added.

Rooney is currently on 25 international goals, just 15 behind another of his United team mates, and one of his all-time heroes, Michael Owen.

Rooney remembers: “When Mo scored his goal against Argentina he was the most exciting player in world football.

“I remember trying to pretend I was him in the streets so I have been quite lucky to play with him,” Rooney said.
