Ever since Rey Mysterio made his first WWE appearance in years at the Royal Rumble two months ago, fans have been wondering if the company will sign him in time for him to have a match at WrestleMania 34 in a couple of weeks time.
According to reports, The Master of the 619 is one step closer towards making a WrestleMania match a reality, or at least a return to the company after The Showcase of the Immortals later this year.
PWInsider has reported that Mysterio will be travelling to Birmingham, Alabama this week to meet with WWE doctors to have his partially torn bicep checked out ahead of potentially signing a new contract with the company.
Rey suffered a Grade One partial tear of his left biceps during a Northeast Wrestling indie event earlier this month. While it is believed the injury is not serious, it sounds like WWE wants to have a look at it before they sign him to a new deal.
It is also worth noting that Mysterio is still scheduled to face Jushin "Thunder" Liger at the March 25 New Japan Pro Wrestling event in Long Beach, and that him signing a WWE deal this week will not change the status of this match.
Overall, if WWE doctors are happy with the health of The Master of the 619, he will most likely be wrestling in the company again later this year, possibly even in a couple of weeks time at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.
Mysterio returned to the WWE at the Royal Rumble this year as the number 27th entrant in the match, his first WWE appearance since his previous contract with the company came to an end in early 2015.
Rey last worked regularly for WWE in 2014 before his previous 13-year run ended, but this time around, he would like to work on a part-time contract, rather than being a full-time performer. WWE fans will be hoping that this isn't a roadblock that stops him from signing with the company.
With his high-quality in-ring work and work ethic, WWE could insert Mysterio on either Monday Night Raw, SmackDown Live, or even on 205 Live and he will be a success. With this recent report, it looks as though we're edging closer to seeing him back on WWE TV once more.
