Have you caught World Cup fever yet?If you’re not at the stage, fear not. It won’t be much longer before you do.There are now just 83 days before this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia get underway and, in huge news, Panini’s official 2018 World Cup sticker album is released this week.If you grew up swapping football stickers with your mates then you’ll be excited by this news, regardless of your current age. However, Panini have been criticised on social media after it was revealed that a pack of five stickers will now set you back a cool 80p - that’s a 30p increase on both the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016 sticker prices. There are over 700 players in Russia, each with their own sticker, plus managers, stadiums and possible extras for tournament mascots etc. This means it will cost you at least £130 if you want to complete this year’s album - and that’s only in the incredibly unlikely event that you manage to avoid a single duplicate.

Surprise England player left out by Panini

Panini’s employees have spent the past few weeks attempting to predict which players will feature in each World Cup squad - and this isn’t always an easy task.

However, Press Association journalist and sticker enthusiast Simon Peach has noticed that Panini have left out one player from the England squad who could end up playing every match.

Jack Butland is in contention to be England’s first-choice goalkeeper in Russia but he’s been omitted from the squad by Panini.

Instead, they’ve gone for Jordan Pickford and the confidence-zapped Joe Hart(!).

Butland expected to start against Italy

Butland is one of four goalkeepers competing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad alongside Hart, Pickford and Nick Pope.

Southgate is expected to start Pickford in goal in England’s next friendly against the Netherlands before turning to Butland for the match against Italy four days later.

Which of the two keepers Southgate eventually settles on for the World Cup will depend on their respective performances in those matches and how they perform with their clubs between now and the end of the season.

Other notable omissions from the England squad include Chris Smalling, Kieran Trippier and, perhaps less surprisingly, Luke Shaw.
