Poyet hoping for four-year Brighton deal

Gus Poyet is hopeful of agreeing a new four-year contract at Brighton.

The former Chelsea midfielder was recently linked with the vacant manager's role at Portsmouth and Albion are keen to tie him to a new deal.

Poyet, who has just returned to England from his native South America, is not involved in negotiations but insists he wants to commit his future to the Seagulls.

"I'm not negotiating. It's between my agent and (managing director) Ken Brown," he told the Argus.

"But the quicker it's done the better for me. I don't want to talk about other clubs all the time. If we do well there will be 100 times when I get linked to other clubs.

"I don't want to say 'I'm with Brighton so don't talk about me'. I'm just not bothered by it. Anybody can spread a rumour about me. It's nothing. It's based on nothing."
