It would be fair to say Chelsea fans have something of a soft spot for Charly Musonda.

Since signing for the Blues' youth team in 2012, the Belgian has impressed with his raw pace, trickery and technical style. Almost every time he's pulled on the blue jersey, fans were left wondering why he hasn't featured more often.

That was certainly the case across seven Chelsea appearances this year and apparent in the worried reaction when Musonda lamented the club's youth system in an impassioned Instagram post.

Nevertheless, there was quiet hope that Musonda was on the road to success when he secured an 18-month loan deal with Celtic during the January transfer window.

A lot of Chelsea fans thought it would finally give the 21-year-old the platform and game-time with which to catch Antonio Conte's eye and receive the attention he deserves at Stamford Bridge.

Musonda is now 2 months into his Celtic loan

That's all well and good, but two months on and very little has fed back to Chelsea concerning the Belgian starlet.

And for those who don't regularly follow the Scottish Premier League, it would be very easy to forget that Musonda is now settled at Celtic Park.

Sadly, however, Musonda will be all too familiar with his current situation.

Celtic: His Chelsea spell all over again

So far, the Belgian has been limited to seven appearances and only three of them have come from the start with Brendan Rodgers keeping him on bench since the visit of St. Johnstone in mid-February.

It's not from a lack of performances, either, with Musonda attracting great attention for his showing against Zenit St. Petersburg and the general consensus is one of positivity in Scotland.

The opportunities still won't come, though, and few have put the situation better than Chris Sutton.

Writing in his column for the Daily Record, he penned: "I was also impressed with the signing of Charly Musonda, even though I’m mystified by what’s happening with him.

“Scoreless with 20 minutes to
go at Motherwell last weekend, I would have thought Rodgers might have called for the Chelsea loanee who was signed to break down packed defences.”

Sutton isn't alone either with journalist David Hay noting: "There was that little glimpse with his delicate ball into Callum McGregor in the home game against Zenit back in Ferbruary but since then he has rarely been sighted."

The opportunity for a few more glimpses just aren't coming and it must be frustrating for a player who moved to Celtic to shake off that very feeling.

Chelsea fans can only hope things change in the remaining year of his loan.
