Despite having to play three games in three nights, the New Orleans Pelicans managed to win them all and remain firmly in playoff contention in a gruelling week. After having a clash with the Indiana Pacers called off due to a roof leak last month, the Pelicans were forced to fit it in this week in between games with the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers. They wrapped up this tough home stretch by beating the Lakers in a close 128-125 victory at the Smoothie King Center on Thursday night to go a perfect 3-0. This achievement set an impressive milestone as they became the first team since 1979 to win three home games in three consecutive days. Once again, they had superstar Anthony Davis to thank for inspiring them as he produced another terrific display to see of Los Angeles. He posted 33 points on 12-of-20 shooting and added nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. One of his rejections on the night proved to be a highlight play as he dominated on both ends of the floor. After Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball beat his defender with his speed, he saw an open path to the basket and immediately drove into the lane and attempted a dunk. Unfortunately for him, he was met at the top by Davis who sensationally denied him by pinning the ball against the glass.

AD is one of the best rim protectors in the NBA and leads the league in blocks this season with 2.42 per game, so Ball should've known better than to try to dunk on the Pelicans superstar.

Playing for the third straight night and against an energetic and quick Lakers team, New Orleans may have been excused for having fatigue but their leader wasn't prepared to let it affect him.

Instead, the determination of the All-Star big man galvanised the team and the likes of Jrue Holiday and Rajon Rondo followed his lead by producing big performances.

Holiday finished with 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting while Rondo added a double-double of 24 points and 10 assists.

"We just tried to fight through the fatigue, physically and mentally and just try to pull this one out," Davis said after the game, per ESPN.

The win keeps the Louisiana-based franchise in the fourth spot in the Western Conference with a 43-30 record.

Their hard schedule continues with a trip to face the Houston Rockets on Saturday night in the first of nine remaining games this year as they close in on achieving their goal of making it back to the postseason.
