Friday night’s international friendly between Portugal and Egypt saw two of world football’s most in-form players go head-to-head in Zurich.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who had scored a ridiculous 17 goals in his previous eight matches for Real Madrid, came up against the red-hot Mohamed Salah, who had netted 10 goals in his previous eight appearances for Liverpool.

Salah opened the scoring for Egypt with a beautiful left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area 10 minutes after half-time. The 25-year-old was then subbed off during the closing stages of the match, with Egypt still 1-0 up, by coach Hector Cuper.

However, Ronaldo turned the game on its head in injury time, scoring two goals in quick succession to earn a confidence-boosting victory for the reigning European champions.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner netted two headers in the second and fourth minutes of stoppage time, bringing his international goals tally to 81 in 148 matches.

But which of the two superstars performed best over the course of the match?

Footage has emerged of their respective individual highlights and you can watch them both below.

Salah's individual highlights

First of all, let’s take a look at Salah’s highlights…

Although his goal was fabulous, this wasn’t a vintage performance from the Liverpool ace.

Everything he touches turns to gold in the Premier League but it was a different story with his national team on Friday evening.

Many of Salah’s passes failed to find their intended targets, his dribbling was a little off and, aside from the goal, he appeared to have left his shooting boots back at Anfield.

If you were to rate his performance out of 10, you'd have to give him a seven - but only because of that wonderful goal.

Ronaldo's individual highlights

And now let’s look at Ronaldo’s performance…

Critics of the 33-year-old claim he does nothing other than score goals these days - and that isn’t an entirely unreasonable assessment after his performances at club level this season.

Certainly, he’s less involved in play these days but that’s hardly a surprise for a player of his advancing years.

However, Ronaldo proved against Egypt that he’s still Portugal’s main man.

He obviously scored the equaliser and the winner late on but his all-round performance was hugely impressive.

At times it felt like we were watching the Ronaldo of old. He was taking on defenders, sprinting about on the wings and even pulling off skills that we hadn’t seen from him for years.

It was brilliant to see and wouldn’t it be fantastic if he can take this form into this summer’s World Cup?

This was a solid 9/10 performance from the player some football fans still believe is the world's best.

Verdict: Ronaldo outclassed Salah on this occasion, but Salah’s time will come.
